I’ve been taking this art class for about 12 weeks now in Busan and I absolutely love it!
How it all came to be is a story for another day ha ha. But it doesn’t matter because its so much fun!
My instructor is a professor at a university in Busan. Every Tuesday after work I venture over to his studio which is in the heart of the Pusan National University area.
His craft uses chinese black paint called/pronouced “mok” on rice paper. This is something so new for me. I painted when I was younger but my favorite medium was oil paint on canvas.
My instructor is the best teacher ever! And he is very kind. He always has tea ready for us each class and plays classical music in the background while we work.
Class is every Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 9:30 ish pm. I thought it would be cool to do a “day in the life” time line for my crazy Tuesdays.
6:35 am —–> My alarms goes off. I usually wake up by 6am though agonize over the fact that I should be doing my workouts and get up.
6:45 am —–> Turn on my lap top and Skype just in case anyone in the US is home and want to talk. Shower and start to get ready.
7:15 am —–> Breakfast which is usually a bowl of Museli, cup of tea or just some plain water. When finished I throw something together for lunch.
7:45 am—-> Leave my apartment and walk to school.
8:00 am—> Arrive to school. Check my schedule. Adjust any lesson plans until my first class. That usually looks like this:
My class shedule : (ONLY ON TUESDAYS)

My day ends at 4:30 pm everyday. Last semester I ended at 5:30 on some days because I taught after school classes.
4:50 pm —-> Get on the bus to head downtown. From there I catch the express bus to Busan OR I take the bus to the train station and take the train to Busan.
6:15 pm —> Arrive to Nopo-dong station in Busan. Then I take the subway to the university stop.
7:00 —–> Arrive to class. Sometimes I am early if I don’t stop for dinner.
9:30 pm —-> Leave class….By now I am exhausted and so sleepy.I take the subway back to the train station for the bus. I get home around 11:58 pm every Tuesday. IF we get out early THEN I get home at 10:58 pm. Always like clock work…the same time.
I am so thankful I only have 3 classes on Tuesdays 🙂 since my day is so long…I should write that in my gratitude journal tonight!
Anyway here is a picture from my first class in March:
We practiced lines, circles and boxes. This helped me to get the technique down and the correct way to hold the brush.
May 8th class:
I call this one…”Multi-racial family” 🙂
*Do you see my progress?
May 18th class (class was canceled Tuesday)
Didn’t like my first attempt 🙁
My third attempt…still not in love with it. But I was happy to be using colors!
This is ALL of my work thus far! I am so surprised with myself! If you visit Korea…or any country for a long term here is some advice. Please make sure to pick up some hobbies to keep you happy and excited about learning new things in life!
Do you have any hobbies??
