Natural Hair Spain

August 4, 2014 By Tamara

Hey guys! I recently made a video about my process when taking care of my natural hair in Spain. The French line Le Petit Marseillais became my go to for cleansing and conditioning in-conjuction with  bentonite clay. Coconut oil is also a great conditioner and can be used during the pre-shampoo stage. Check out the video below and let me know what you think. And as always, … [Read more...]

Eating healthy and travel

July 24, 2014 By Tamara

It's difficult! You will find no lies here. So let's be completely honest and transparent with each other! Seriously…it's difficult! Especially if you are living in a city with exceptional cuisine, you just want to try everything! Oh and don't forget about the life of a busy ESL teacher with morning classes and private evening lessons. Your kitchen can go from this:  To … [Read more...]

Women who Inspire: Welcome Bernadette!

July 18, 2014 By Tamara

One of the great things about traveling is meeting  new people as well as other travelers. For me, I especially enjoy meeting young 20-somethings that trade in their mundane and draining corporate lifestyles for the more robust life of travel. I met Bernadette while working as a volunteer for an event in Madrid.  She is also living in Spain working as an auxiliary through the … [Read more...]

5 tips for Finding an Apartment in Spain

July 15, 2014 By Tamara

It's that time of year when auxiliaries heading to Spain are contemplating: "Where in the devils hell am I going to live?"  Unlike programs such as EPIK or TALK in South Korea, language assistants in Spain must find their own piso (flat/apartment). Here are 5 helpful tips for finding an apartment in Spain. 1. Don't agree to, book, confirm, pay for, or offer your first … [Read more...]

7 Reasons living in Spain changed my life!

July 11, 2014 By Tamara

Life changing moments can hit you when you least expect it. For me, this past year, has been littered with copious amounts of  "ah ha" moments (as Oprah calls them). Living in Spain this second  go around was more enlightening than the first time. From building new relationships, learning another language (again), contemplating career options, to spending so much time alone, … [Read more...]

Adios Puertollano

June 22, 2014 By Tamara

You may not have known the name of the town that I've lived in for the last 7 seven months. Mainly because I never fully mentioned it. The second school I was placed with for my BEDA assignment was Maria Immaculada in Puertollano. Puertollano is a very small town about 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Madrid on the AVE high speed train. It was once a thriving coal mining town … [Read more...]

BEDA Spain: Why I’m leaving

June 1, 2014 By Tamara

teaching in spain

This update is long overdue. But I thought I should share that my renewal process with the BEDA Spain program was canceled. Why? My career aspirations and outlook for my future "adult self" has changed. And to continue to stifle in this role as an underpaid and disrepected ESL teacher in Spain seems a bit ridiculous. I no longer find happiness with the lesson plans because … [Read more...]
