My experience as an international Volunteer for the past 19 months has been interesting to say the least. As you know this isn't my first time volunteering abroad nor is it my first time living and working abroad. In light of this I chose to come into this new environment with no expectations. Actually my only missions were to be of service to others and continue to live in my … [Read more...]
Notes from the field #5
So this series fell by the way side. I've been a combination of busy and lazy so I haven't updated in a long time. Here goes the longest update ever! October and November were quite busy as the end of our districts financial quarter was coming to an end. Not only that but the activities that were scheduled for this time period in our evidence based plans (a list of … [Read more...]
Local Government Capacity Builder
A Day in the Life... Sweat dripped down my back as I clutched my minute book and walked across the street to the government clinic. It was only 8am but the glorious morning sun was beaming and in full effect. The walk from Moloadi's office to the clinic always takes about 5 minutes. Unless someone stops me on the way to chat adding more time to the journey. Today I was lucky … [Read more...]
Happy Anniversary
Happy Anniversary to me...to us! Well at least I think those are the right words for this occasion. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Exactly 6 months ago today, I landed in the country once known as Bechanaland, to begin my Peace Corps training and my 27 months of service. After 3 nights in a cozy hotel in the capital city, all 75 volunteers, known as Bots 15, were piled in two government … [Read more...]
Consistently Inconsistent
Last year I set a ton a goals for myself and this blog and unfortunately due to poor management of time(and frolicking around Spain), I didn't accomplish all of them. Since starting the new year goal setting has been on my mind a ton lately. As well as digging deeper into my inner self to explore why at times I feel like I am lagging behind. I've spent … [Read more...]
Baboons!
I almost lost my life to a family of Baboons today! Oh dear God!!! I'm currently in the capital city for a doctors appointment. SIDENOTE: This was pre-arranged by the PC medical staff. Volunteers are not just allowed to wonder up to Gaborone whenever they feel the need. We must get special permission. OK now after my final appointment I headed back the Peace Corps office. … [Read more...]
Community Assessment
Yes. This is my life right at this moment. Everything else must be put on hold until this community assessment is done. To be fair I finished it about a month ago but just need to finish typing it up. Along with typing, I need to add graphs, pictures, edit this, fix that, you know make it prefect. Sidenote: I will never forget during Pre-service … [Read more...]
Schedule
With such a big goal of posting everyday, it is almost imperative to have a blogging schedule. To make life easier I also created some themes for everyday of the week. I'll share it tomorrow and start the schedule on Monday January 5th! Today I want to share a few of my favorite pictures. By this time this year in Spain, I had already taken hundreds of photos of my daily … [Read more...]

Traditional Dance Botswana
This photo is from back in September. One lazy saturday morning after recuperating from PST sessions and a failed internet date at the local library, another volunteer and I went for a walk around Serowe and stumbled upon this traditional dance festival. Traditional dance in Botswana is so engaging to watch. It seriously gives me goosebumps! We were so happy! I for one was … [Read more...]
