Packing for Peace Corps

June 2, 2015 By Tamara

Well HELLO! Long time no chat!

Seriously though now that my Black History & Beyond series is over (for now…let’s call it version 1.0)I must get back into offering my advice and stories of PCV life based on my own experiences.

One of the most nerve wrecking parts of the journey was packing. Yes it still gives me shudders to think about that awful time 9 months (wow! I’ve been in Botswana for 9 months already #Eish!) ago. Suffocating under clothes and toiletries as my body was being buried alive in my mothers living room, packing for Peace Corps was a headache.

Haha I delayed it until the absolute last minute mainly because I was still traveling. And honestly I just couldn’t bring myself to deal with it.

My bags still needed to be unpacked since I’d just returned home from Spain and the thought of packing for another LONNNG trek across the globe put my fingers in knots.

Kind of like this guys from the Scary Movie franchise.

Haha! Ok not quite like that, but you get the idea 😛

The funny thing about that experience was there wasn’t a reason for me to be afraid of packing. After moving to 4 countries in the last 5 years for graduate school and long term work assignments, I should be a PRO at this game!

However looking back the one thing I wished were available to me was some sort of packing guidelines that made sense. A document that was the ultimate guide of sorts which would take me step by step through the packing process. The suggestions from the Peace Corps website and other volunteer blogs will literally leave you BROKE if you aren’t privy to what you ACTUALLY need to take with you.

And how on earth are you supposed to know this if it is your first time leaving the country?

Let alone packing for 2 years?

Well, I decided that no one else will go through the same packing anxiety that I (and many others I’m sure) have experienced.

It came to me in a vision to create that much needed packing guide for anyone to use while preparing for their Peace Corps life.

Now my friends I bring you  THE ULTIMATE GUIDE: Packing for Peace Corps.

(cue dramatic music)

This 21 page FREE PDF download gives you step by step instructions on what to take with you as you embark on your service and what to LEAVE BEHIND.

The Ultimate Guide Packing for Peace Corps is interactive in the sense that it gets you thinking about and writing down the items that you will bring, it offers suggestions on what to put in each bag and helps you to categorize your items.

This will ensure a happy, organized and stress free you! And maybe your mother won’t constantly yell at you to remove your piles of clothing out of her living as you hastily try to pack (being unorganized and procrastination caused this for me!).

The Ultimate Guide by travelingnatural.com

I want you to start off your PCV life worry free. And with this guide I offer tips and insight on items that I brought that could have been purchased in country. There are also more tips specific to Peace Corps Botswana volunteers but ANYONE can use this regardless of your country of service.

Go ahead download it and use it as you pack. I dare you! Packing for Peace Corps is no longer a scary feat with this guide.

Let me know what you think and don’t be afraid to offer suggestions on how it can be improved in the comments below.
