Day 4: LAZAT cooking class

March 7, 2012 By Tamara

I rushed out of Apple Hotel at 6 am. I woke up at 5am and was like “I’m getting dressed NOW!”.

This day, for me are what dreams are made of (ballerina twirls)!

I signed up for a  LAZAT cooking class. I needed to be there for the 8:30am market tour before the cooking commenced.

I was so excited! I love cooking and learning new recipes, visiting markets and buying spices when traveling 🙂

It was very dark outside when I left Jalan Alor. But when I got on the train I was able to see the sun rise. I carried my bag with me to the Lazat cooking school class since I was leaving that night for Singapore on an 8:00 pm flight.

I arrived and found Ana in her office. She is the owner of the school. She and her staff were so pleasant. They fed me some tea while we waited for the 3 other students. I talked with her about the school and Malaysia. You know when you meet someone and you have an instant connection. I felt that with her. I think it’s because her spirit was so welcoming. She told me that the school recently moved into the current location. Which is why some paintings still needed to be hung  as one wall was very bare.

I wanted to take pictures but all my cameras were dead. She allowed me to charge my camera on her laptop! We didn’t have a converter for the wall charger. Isn’t that so nice??

My time here is best shown with pictures! So a picture story follows. For this class we learned Malaysian Indian food. Our chef Saadiah was outstanding. It felt like a mom teaching you how to cook her special dishes but with the warnings and executions of a trained chef.

We made samosas, Dhall curry, Masala fried fish and Fruit and nut pudding. They gave a cook book with the recipes at the end of class and a photograph of us cooking.

Saadiah: our chef! and the set up for the samosas!

Below are pictures of the dessert set up and our dinner table!

I loved this class dearly and wished I had done more than one 🙁
After class I was dropped off at the KL Sentral station. I took the express train to the airport.

My snacks while I waited for my flight!

My Air Asia flight left on time and an hour later I was in Singapore!
