Creating a mastermind group!
I’ve been all talk and no solid actions for awhile when I think about the transitions that I want to make with this blog.
What started out as a platform to share my travel journey, travel advice and natural hair has grown into so much more. My interests have changed as much as my jobs in the past four years of blogging and it is time this site truly reflects my reconfigured passions and ideals.
Travel is always going to be apart of my blogging voice but there are aspects of this topic that no other blogger seems to talk about. Or we are afraid to shed light on. One aspect I’ve eluded to in the past is the ugly side of travel. The side where discussions on mental health, losing yourself in the journey, confusion of living in a new culture and fear of traveling solo as a female are hidden in the pages of google searches. Stifled by more trending topics like “Sexy beach getaways for Spring break!”.
But I’m going to start addressing these issues and pushing them to the forefront. Because we need more thought provoking discussions on positive lifestyles, mental health & wellness, being your authentic self as an expat or even just preparing your family for life abroad(or you leaving them to go abroad).
I want to provide my life experiences as a examples and help those that need more resources when it comes to expat life and what they may experience from the ugly side of travel. For weeks now, I’ve been formulating in my head and blog journal how the transition will take place over the next few months. So you will notice changes on this space. As this site transitions from a mere personal travel blog to a resource site for expats, esl teachers and service workers, I definitely don’t want to lose anyone in the shuffle.
It’s hard though gaining focus on entrepreneurial efforts when you are constantly moving every one to two years. Your extended group of friends changes with your environment and even connecting with folks back home can be tricky. So you can imagine it is really hard to find likeminded people who are interested in the same (or similar) goals and pursuit as yourself. I can tell you right now, as a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana, that is pretty much non-existent for me! And if I want to do things like find an accountability partner, talk to individuals about social entrepreneurship or even talking about social media strategies/business development…it’s not happening.
This is why building a tribe online made sense. I’ve been reading about Mastermind groups since being introduced to Napoleon Hill last year, but never knew where to start. At the time I was living in Spain and still trying to figure out my branding and purpose with this site.
Through divine timing I read that Courtney of ThinkandGrowChick.com was starting a Mastermind group.
I was excited to join but negative self talk prevented me from actually following through. Or should I say “taking action.”
It’s sad to look back on this comment and think how far things could be at this point had I taken action then!
Today I decided it is time. Not only will I be apart of a Mastermind group but I’ll create one. One group that meets online through this blog and another private group. This way it would be impossible for me to slack off in the consistency department, which you know I’m trying to get better with this year.
With four months left of 2015 it is not too late to accomplish all the intentions we set in January.
If you are:
- Interested in turning your blog into a business but don’t know how
- Looking to network with likeminded people and find accountability partners
- Searching for a safe space to be encouraged and encourage others
- Excited to elevate the lives of others
Then we should connect!
Sitting around, reading all the”how to be productive” books and listening to all the advice in the world no longer serves me.
It’s time to take action towards our goals and why not do it together! This peer to peer mentoring method is a great support system and beneficial to all who joins.
How the online group will work
Meetings: Since we are using an online structure we will meet twice a month on Mondays via this blog.
Let’s call them Mastermind Mondays! So original haha 🙂 OK…I’ll think of a different name by the end of this post!
Everyone should follow this format when writing in about your goals:
- Announce your goal for the week
- Tell us your one win for the week. Just say what awesome news you have to share or why you are winning this week.
- Are you facing any challenges? If so tell us what they are? We will try our best to offer advice on how to turn the challenge into a win.
- Share ONE bookmark worthy shareable resource with the other members.
- Tell us what are your goals for next week? What do you hope to accomplish?
How can we share?:
There are two ways to share your goals.
First
I’ll be testing out the linking method which Melissa over at Nectar Collective used beautifully with her weekly wishes posts.
All you have to do is respond via a post on your blog (using the format above) and link back to this blog by clicking the blue “inlinkz” button. This way others are able to share and comment on your goals.
Second
You can just comment below! So simple right 🙂 Anyone can offer advice and we can help each other out by commenting.
How to join the private group?:
This group will be invitation only. I’ll invite about 2-5 people from different social media groups that I think might like the idea. Pat Flynn over at Smart Passive Income has great tips for mastermind groups which includes the hot seat method, so we’ll implement some of his tips.
However depending on how this goes there will be a private facebook created for both the online group and private members to join!
Awesome sauce right?!
Now to give the group a spiffy name…hmmm.
How about “Ditsala Ya Me”?
Since I am living in Botswana at the moment and learning their language of Setswana this could work. This phrase means “Friends of mine” and is pronounced “Dit Sa LAh Ya May”.
We are all friends now so why not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Let’s show our solidarity with the Ditsala Ya Me mastermind button. You can put it in your side bar and use it in your mastermind monday posts like this one below. Just grab the code and go!
I look forward to creating and progressing with you all 🙂
The first session convenes August 31st 2015. Let’s go!
