I don’t know why I thought I would be immune to the staring, pointing, laughing, or the repeated exclamations of “oh chin cha waygook in!” in Seoul. But it was definitely present and I feel more intense than in Ulsan. Maybe it’s the fact that there are so many more Koreans living in Seoul and I was traveling solo, but it gets annoying. I use to just nod and smile. But now it feels like they are trying to steal my soul!
But I am so thankful for the new YouTube channel I AM OTHER…some folks need a crash course on diversity. And I am not just talking about race.
I’ve made some wonderful Korean friends don’t get me wrong. But I’ve noticed that the people who have traveled outside of Korea are the ones that are most open to accepting new cultures.
Ha ha…ok my rant is over.
Anyway day two in Seoul was fun! I left my accommodations really early and headed over to the national museum of Korea.

You can close the door to your cabin bed |
…and lock it with a key |
Entrance to the cabins. I paid $25 a night since I got a deal on the agoda website. |
There is a gym |
People sleeping on the floor |
There is no separation for gender. If you opt to sleep on the floor, you just sleep anywhere. |
National Museum of Korea
old school meets new school |
you can see Namsan tower in the background |
Chinese painting tools! |
My father 🙂 |
My lunch looking at Namsan tower in the distance 🙂 |
I am a shrimp burger…you’re suppose to be vegan arghhh…ha ha 🙁 |
After the museum I headed to the Ewha University area followed by the Hongdae area 🙂
Shoes! It was nice window shopping near an all girls university |
Entrance to the university |
Saw this in Olive and Young…Asians fear being brown…it’s really sad |
Took a break in this coffee shop. It was supposed to be Spanish style. |
Ordered a ice chocolate drink yummy! |
I headed to Hongdae and tried Dos Tacos. It was good but I wouldn’t go back a second time…shrugs.
Broccoli and refried beans burrito for 8,000 won |
The service was pretty bad too. But that seems to be common in Korea. |
It started to rain so I headed to COEX Mall. The mall was massive! But it was pretty boring walking around there. I didn’t see any interesting or new stores. Just the same stores you can find anywhere in Korea. It needs and H&M and Forever 21. They boost over 800 restaurants. I counted about 15…shrugs. OK I must admit the next time I go to Seoul…if I go back, I am only doing guided tours and a visit to the DMZ.
I took a break and got some blue lemonade. It was about 7pm at this point. I need new comfy travel shoes 🙂 |
I taste yummy! |
I miss my mom…AND I miss traveling with my mom. That’s pretty much what I thought about while wondering around Seoul! |
After my lemonade I noticed it stopped raining so I left COEX. I stayed there for maybe 2 hours unintentionally. I was lost 🙁
The place is HUGE!
I headed to Sinsa-dong to stroll around Garosu-gil and have dinner. I had dinner at Yum Thai. I chose this place after reading old recommendation on Seouleats. AND it was closer to my accommodations. I really wanted to go back to Wang Thai in Itaewon though 🙁
The food at this place was absolutely disgusting. I had spring rolls which were good. You can’t really mess up raw veggies wrapped in rice paper unless you’re an r*tard! I also had seafood rice because nothing else was vegan friendly. The rice was over cooked and there was hardly any sea food. It was as though it was cooked in the microwave. You know those microwavable meals you can get at the market. Nasty!
Don’t go here! |
decent |
Not decent…nasty! And they used caned pineapples! |
After dinner I went down Garosu-gil (street) to walk and forget my horrible meal. The entrance is actually right in-front of the restaurant.
This area is known for plastic surgery, shopping, and the trees that line the street.
before: normal After: ??? |
entrance to the tree lined street |
I actually ended up eating waffles before heading back to Metro Spa Cabin 🙂
I woke up really early the next day and headed back to Ulsan. I really wanted to get out of Seoul before any holiday traffic.
