New York City, Hurricane Sandy, and Elephant earrings…random

November 15, 2012 By Tamara

A week or two before hurricane Sando ( I’m changing the name because it seems as though the most destructive storms of the last few years turn out to be named after women) I headed down to NYC with my sister to have lunch with a dear friend on her birthday!
We met up in Manhattan at El Centro which specializes in Mexican cuisine. It was really good and I was happy to taste “REAL” Mexican food since leaving Korea.
AND the restuarant was about a 6 to 10 minute walk to the theater where Jake Gyllenhaal’s off broadway show “If there is I haven’t found it yet.” is showing! *swoons*ย
My sisters head ha ha ๐Ÿ™‚

The Birthday girl and her friend.

My meal! Huevos Rancheros! Bangin’!

My sisters shrimp fajitas!

Me and my amiga.
After lunch we took at stroll down to 42nd street. On the way we passed this thrift store called “Housing Works”. The proceeds go to help the homeless if I remember correctly.ย
ย
Interior. Apparently there are many locations around the city.

I purchased these earrings for $8.00! I love elephants and I thought they were awesome ๐Ÿ™‚
The night of the hurricane before the power went out I watched one of my old favorites All Dogs go to Heaven. I purchased it over the summer before going to South Korea. But that night was my first time opening the plastic. On the cover it says “double feature”, part 1 and part 2.ย
However it was only the original movie on the DVD.ย
DAMN YOU WALMART!!!

Lastly I’ve been cooking A LOT! I love food and I love the kitchen. I’m trying to get into better shape
before my trip to Jamaica. So I’ve been trying to create really clean meals. Someย  strictly paleo and some not.ย
But along with having a better diet since returning home (the first month back I was eating EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!) I’ve been working on my fitness. Trying (keyword: trying) a combination of Jillian Micheal’s, the Nike Fit Club app, Insanity and going on long walks/hikes or jogs.

Banana and chocolate chip muffins. I just wanted them to be colorful ๐Ÿ™‚ But these were the last unhealthy treat I made…oh wait I made brownies the week after ๐Ÿ™
Followed a paleo instagrammers recipe for egg muffins…fail ๐Ÿ™

Healthy breakfast

Meal prep on Sunday for the whole family. Roast chicken with veggies.

Got the idea from YouTube blogger beautycrush to make my own granola! I will never buy granola again!

Random picture of me and my big sister who is also natural. Actually so is my mother ๐Ÿ™‚
