Food of Korea prt2

September 8, 2011 By Tamara

August 26th: First day in my new apartment. I went exploring and ended getting take out. Hmmm that was an interesting experience given the language barrier. I had to point and use tons of gestures to augment the tiny bit of korean that I have learned.

I went to Toreore a few blocks from my abode. There are about 37 chicken restaurants in my street within 10 blocks. I’m not sure what’s up with Koreans and deep fried chicken but I will figure it out! The box came wrapped in ribbon!

There was pickled radishes in the box along with the chicken.

I got enough chicken to feed a family of six! I blame this on the language barrier lol. I at it for like the next 5 days and didn’t finish it.  It was ok though. But I think I will try to stick to eating mainly fish and veggies:)

August 27th I went out for a traditional korean lunch/dinner. There were tons of side dishes that we wrapped in big leafy greens.,

August 28: Trip to Daegu. Saw this Dunkins coolata ad with flavors we don’t have in the US. Why don’t we have these flavors?? Then stumbled upon a korean outdooor market. Its Kimchi making season so tons of peppers were about.

Green tea latte also needs to make an appearance on the U.S. dunkin donuts menu! Its soooo good!

August 31: Yea I know I skipped some days but If you scroll up to that box of chicken…I was still eating it dinner on the unmentioned days…lol.

I went out for lunch with my coworkers to a bibimbap restuarant. It was served in a really hot stone pot. I also tried some “perilla” soup which was creamy and delicious. Then afterwords we went out for coffee!

September 1st: Went for lunch with my co-workers since we did not have school! I has a cold noodle dish. The noodles were so long and hard to bite apart that you needed to cut them down with scissors. It was really hot that day and having a cold dish was refreshing. However I am not a big fan of it and probably will not have it again.

September 2nd: There is a really great indian food spot in Old downtown so I went to check it out with some friends.  The owner is apparently from Nepal and I was curious to taste how authentic the spices and flavors would be since I really love indian food. The restaurant is called Namaskar.

The food delivered greatly in both flavor and presentation. I will surely frequent this restaurant alot! After indian food I have some coffee of course…actually hot chocolate and it came with a heart!

September 3rd: After a fun filled morning looking around Lotte Mart I headed down to their food court for lunch. I had ramen and she had noodles and fried rice with some type of meat. The ordering system was interesting to say the least but you can find the video on my youtube channel:)
