Eating healthy in Spain

July 25, 2014 By Tamara

Welcome to part 2 of the Eating Healthy during Travel series.

Below let’s take a look at some “comida” options from the local Mercadona.

Bag of veggies

You can find these guys for 1 to 2 euros. Great for salads and wraps.

Whole Chicken

At first the idea of putting this rotisserie chicken in the microwave to heat it up grossed me out! But after tasting it at a picnic, I stopped going going to my local “Pollo Asado” restaurant. It’s so tasty and flavorful!

Whole Wheat Wraps

Words can’t express my excitement when I found whole wheat wraps in the local Carrefour. #smallTownLife

This cousin to the corn and white flour tortilla is a much healthier option! If I remember correctly the price was 2.99 (euros)

Quick Meal options!

Easy veggie and chicken wraps. Omit the chicken for vegetarian option.

Eating out

This is a fish option from the menu del dia. Menu del dias will come with bread…leave it on the table ha ha 🙂

Menu del dia

Tapas option: Pulpo y  gambas (octopus and shrimp )…leave the bread 🙂

Pulpo yum

Drink option: skip the soda and get a shandy. It’s beer with lemonade 🙂 (*OK…get some sparkling water with lemon ^_^)

Shandy

Garbanzo bean, Sardines, and salad. The perfect el cheapo meal if you’ve just spent all your money traveling to Barcelona 🙂

Beans and salad

Vegetarian option: Garbanzo beans, green beans, spinach and tomato.

Beautiful photos and the food looks great. It can be a challenge trying different foods in unfamiliar countries. You’ve done well to step out of your comfort zone : )
