Yup I started a 30 day vegan challenge on March 5, 2012.
What sparked this decision? Well I had already decided that I was going to start eating clean and working out after I returned from vacation in Southeast Asia.
But after reading this article about pink slime and this article about dog meat in South Korea the notion of the challenge felt easier. I think I will rename it from 30 day vegan challenge to 30 day vegan research. I’ve been perusing the internet for resources on eating vegan, vegans living in Korea, and shopping for produce/vegan/organic products.
Now from December 2008 to January 2011 I was living as what you would call a “pescatarian”. So I ate a primarly vegetarian diet but added creatures of the sea 🙂 During this time I lived in Boston and Spain.
When I was in Spain there were times I regretted not being able to try some of the local cuisine like “bull” or the non-vegetarian version of “paella”.
When I read the dog meat article I felt like “oh that is crazy!” “how can you do that”, but then I thought…why is that bad and eating a chicken or fish is ok? Or even a cow?
I will document my weeks compilation of research every friday Monday until April 6th to share my findings, thoughts and concerns.
Are any of you vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian? Or do you have a modified diet for a lifestyle change?
What are your thoughts on the article links I shared? Please let me know what you think! Let’s have a discussion 🙂

Oh another great person to check out, especially since you love food and recipes, is Bryant Terry. He wrote a cookbook back in ’09 called “Vegan Soul Kitchen” (my mom cooks from it. His sweet potato pie that she makes calls for coconut oil in the crust and it tastes AMAZING!) and he has a new book out now called “The Inspired Vegan.” Sistah Vegan also speaks well of him. Here’s the link to his website. https://www.bryant-terry.com/
